Behaviour System
Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting growth
At St Richard’s, we are committed to developing the whole child. Our Behaviour System is designed to reinforce the positive attitudes and actions that help our community flourish.
We believe in recognising success, encouraging responsibility and responding to mistakes with fairness, consistency and dignity.
Recognising and Rewarding Positive Behaviour
Positive behaviour is celebrated in many ways across the school.
House points are awarded for achievement, attendance, hard work, participation and kindness. Pupils may also receive:
- Verbal praise
- Positions of responsibility
- Representative honours and prefect status
- Reward stickers and postcards home
- Early lunch passes
- Certificates and annual prizes for achievement, effort and service
We believe that encouragement and recognition build confidence and strengthen the values that shape our community.
The Crest Award
The Crest celebrates each pupil’s wider development during their five years at St Richard’s.
To achieve The Crest, pupils take part in a range of activities, including:
- Leadership opportunities
- Enrichment in sport or the Arts
- Charity work
- Peer support
- Work-related learning
Parents and carers receive an annual update on their child’s progress towards The Crest. Pupils who complete the full award are recognised at special celebration events, with families invited to share in this achievement.
When Mistakes Happen
When mistakes are made, we work alongside pupils, parents and carers to reflect, learn and move forward in the spirit of reconciliation.
Consequences are applied fairly and proportionately, taking into account the nature of the incident and the individual circumstances involved. A range of responses may be used, including:
- Withdrawal of certain privileges
- Subject or behaviour reports
- Behaviour points for poor conduct or lack of effort
- After-school detentions
Parents and carers are asked to monitor behaviour points online and support constructive conversations at home. If a pupil is placed in after-school detention, parents will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance, with clear information about the reason.
For more serious breaches of school expectations, Saturday detentions may be issued. In cases of serious misconduct, a suspension may be necessary. Permanent exclusion is extremely rare and would only be considered where required to safeguard the wellbeing of the wider school community.
A Fair and Consistent Approach
Clear expectations, consistent responses and open communication help pupils feel secure and supported. When we work together with families, we create the stability that allows young people to thrive.
Full procedural details can be found in our Pastoral Care & Behaviour Management Policy on the Statutory Information page.
