Chaplaincy
Supporting the faith life of our school
Chaplaincy plays an important role in the life of St Richard’s Catholic College. Our chaplaincy team supports the spiritual life of the school and helps pupils grow in faith, confidence and compassion.
We are fortunate to have a strong chaplaincy team led by our Lay Chaplain, who works closely with staff and pupils to support prayer, reflection and the wider Catholic life of the college. The chaplaincy team helps to organise liturgies, retreats and opportunities for pupils to reflect on their faith and values.
Chaplaincy is also supported by Caritas Leaders, with representatives from each form group, and by our pupil Leadership Team, including Captains and Deputies elected from Year 10 and Year 11. These pupils play an active role in helping to lead prayer, support charitable work and encourage a strong sense of community across the school.
Pupils Leading and Serving
Pupils play an important role in supporting the faith life of the college. Through chaplaincy groups and leadership roles, pupils help prepare liturgies, lead prayer and support charitable initiatives throughout the year.
These opportunities allow pupils to develop leadership, confidence and a deeper understanding of how faith can guide their actions and relationships with others.
Many chaplaincy activities also support the school’s commitment to Catholic Social Teaching, encouraging pupils to care for others and make a positive difference in the world.
Working With Our Parish Community
Our chaplaincy is strengthened by the close relationship we have with local priests and the wider parish community.
Local priests regularly visit the school and support the sacramental life of St Richard’s. They lead assemblies, celebrate whole-school Masses on special occasions, and join us for Holy Days of Obligation. They are also available to support pupils, staff and families when needed.
This close partnership helps ensure that the faith life of the school remains connected to the wider Catholic community.
A Place of Welcome and Reflection
Chaplaincy is also a place where pupils can find time for quiet reflection and support.
Whether through prayer, conversation, or taking part in chaplaincy activities, pupils are
encouraged to explore their faith and reflect on their own values and choices.
Through chaplaincy, pupils learn that faith is not only something we learn about, but
something we live through kindness, service and care for one another.
